Café · Whitechapel
WA Cafe brings a slice of Tokyo patisserie culture to Aldgate East, just minutes from the station in a bright, window-lined space. The Japanese-style cakes are the draw here — reviewers rave about the strawberry shortcake ("exactly like in Japan") and the white grape shortcake with fresh fruit tucked into airy sponge. There's also shokupan bread, cream pan, honey toast, and a small but notable range of gluten-free cakes including a matcha version and the fortune roll. Drinks run from proper matcha lattes (made from powder, not a machine) to iced hoji peach tea and kuro goma latte. Highchairs and buggy access are available. Cakes sit around £5–9, with a £1 surcharge if you're eating in rather than taking away. Parents appreciate the soft, not-too-sweet style and report the crew to be genuinely friendly.
